CEMEX partnered with Avetta to digitize supplier management, standardize performance monitoring, and boost compliance across 750+ contractors, generating 6,000+ reports annually.
The Challenge
CEMEX UK previously relied on a time-consuming, paper-based supplier performance monitoring system across multiple business units. It required significant day-to-day administrative attention, creating inefficiencies and higher risk. As Procurement Director Daniel Panormo explains, “Our existing contractor approval system required high maintenance and was difficult to sustain. We needed a technology-based solution that would deliver additional information with more efficient administration.”
CEMEX also required greater supply chain visibility to identify and maximise use of compliant suppliers. The transition from manual systems to a digital platform needed to be seamless, ensuring safety and existing processes were not disrupted.
The Avetta Solution
In October 2012, CEMEX UK selected Avetta to deploy a comprehensive supply chain risk management solution. Avetta transitioned CEMEX from a slow paper-based process to a dynamic electronic platform, ensuring supplier evaluation and monitoring remained continuous and up to industry standards.
The solution combined technology (SaaS platform) with service (supply chain enhancement). Avetta delivered onsite and remote training through a dedicated Account Manager to guarantee smooth implementation. The result was vastly improved visibility into supplier compliance and performance, unified across all business units.
Beyond prequalification, CEMEX leveraged supplier performance management to prevent risks, unify its business units, and standardize supplier assessments. The partnership also included a two-way feedback system, enabling both suppliers and CEMEX to evaluate and improve procurement and health & safety performance.
The Results
Avetta helped CEMEX standardize supplier evaluation and increase visibility across its supply chain. With over 6,000 supplier performance reports generated annually, CEMEX can now identify high-performing contractors quickly and address concerns proactively.
The new system unified contractor compliance across more than 750 suppliers, supported over 850 audits, and strengthened relationships with suppliers through collaborative engagement. CEMEX’s leadership in adopting Avetta’s platform has attracted interest from industry peers and led to broader adoption across the sector.
