With thirty-five years of experience in high-hazard operational environments, Jim is passionate about helping leaders and operators achieve critical mission objectives. He is the only astronaut to have commanded five space missions and landed the Space Shuttle five times.

Selected by NASA in 1984, Jim flew six Space Shuttle missions, including flights to Mir and the International Space Station. He later served as Director of Flight Crew Operations and Deputy Director of Johnson Space Center, focused on improving flight and ground safety.

After NASA, Jim joined BP, where he supported safety and operations, including serving on the Deepwater Horizon investigation team.
