It is often said, "What gets rewarded gets done." However, if we say that incident reductions will be rewarded, there are many ways to reduce incident counts and rates without actually improving safety. Instead, positively reinforcing safe work practices, safe conditions, and safety participation through proactive recognition and incentive programs reward the things that create safety so that incident reductions are valid and reliable.
This presentation takes a closer look at the safety needs of a high-reliability organization and how they can be recognized and incentivized instead of hoping for a lucky incident reduction without reliability. With this, we can truly celebrate safety!
