Avetta and eWebOQ: 2 Combine to Make Safety #1

Risk management provider acquires eWebOQ; now offers its Operator Qualification program to all customers to train, track, test and evaluate whether contract pipeline workers are equipped for safety

Orem, Utah—Avetta (www.Avetta.com), the leading provider of supply chain risk management, has acquired eWebOQ,  which offers the oil and gas industry critical tools to make the workplace safer. eWebOQ integrates with Avetta’s Worker Management platform to provide the training, evaluation and testing of its OQ program.

“Avetta and eWebOQ bring unmatched access and visibility to the supply chain risk management process for pipeline operators,” said Richard Parke, Avetta V.P. of Global Supplier Services. “We can now be your partner for worker training and compliance across the board.”

More than 10,000 people have taken more than 2 million courses through eWebOQ, which requires workers to safely demonstrate specific tasks in-person in addition to online tests.

Pipeline to Safety
Since 1999, the oil and gas industry had nearly 6-thousand pipeline incidents involving 1,297 injuries and 291 fatalities. The statistics from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) reports the safety incidents cost the public and private industry more than $9 billion.

Pipeline operators are required by federal law to ensure hundreds of contractors and thousands of workers adhere to the strict PHMSA Operator Qualification (OQ) Rule of 1999.  The comprehensive curriculum of eWebOQ and its vetted evaluators make sure all employees can demonstrate the task-specific procedures required by federal regulations.

The Last Line of Defense
Evaluators are a critical line of defense to usher a qualified versus unqualified individual to the job site. In 2018, more than $500,000 of NOPVs (Notice of Probable Violations) were due to individuals not being evaluated competently or at all on task skills. eWebOQ evaluators are only authorized to make appraisals on the tasks in which they have demonstrated competency.

“Without a doubt, the eWebOQ evaluator program has the industry’s highest standards for vetting evaluators and the history of getting the best results for keeping employees safe,” said Ralph Webb, vice-president for eWebOQ at Avetta. “These evaluations are especially critical for the high-demand pressures in the pipeline industry.”

Customized Protection
Since it was the first online OQ training provider, eWebOQ has an extensive training library and numerous industry experts to help each company manage contract workers. eWebOQ provides training and evaluations written to the latest ASME and API standards. Operators can choose one industry standard over another and they can incorporate their own unique plan.
