  • American Staffing Association Partners to Protect Temporary Workers – EHS Today: OSHA and the American Staffing Association (ASA) have renewed their partnership for an additional five years. The ultimate goal of the partnership is to inform temporary workers of their rights. Throughout the next five years, OSHA and ASA will develop workplace hazard information, speak at each other’s events and share information about improving the temporary worker safety best practices.
  • Contractor Group Sues NYC Over New Crane Safety Regulations – Construction Equipment: This week, an industry group that represents 27 trade union contractor associations filed a petition seeking a judgment to permanently block new regulations regarding the operation of crawler cranes in high wind environments. The group claims that the incident resulting in these regulations was actually caused by operator error, rather than high winds.
  • What’s Behind the Latest Enforcement Delay for OSHA’s Anti-retaliation Provisions? – Safety BLR: OSHA announced the further delay of the anti-retaliation provisions to December 1. Originally scheduled for August, the provisions were already delayed once before to November 1. The second delay comes as a result of a Texas district court judge request. It can be assumed that the delay will give the court time to consider a motion that would delay the enforcement indefinitely.

Supplier Violations and Fines

  • OSHA Cites Ohio Construction Firms, Staffing Provider – Staffing Industry Analysts: OSHA cites Seneca Steel Erectors Inc., The Daimler Group and temporary employment agency Construction Labor Contractors over $140,000 in penalties. The fines follow a summer inspection of a worksite that identified three violations for Richfield-based Construction Labor Contractors, specifically. These violations included failure to provide a qualified rigger, failure to train employees about fall hazards and improper operation of aerial lifts.
  • OSHA’s 2016 Top 10 Safety and Health Violations – National Law Review: OSHA recently announced its preliminary annual list of the top 10 safety and health violations that were cited in 2016. In addition to “fall protection” and “respiratory protection,” find out what the other eight violations were here
